All the Melody tubes
Tubes, tubes and more tubes. Some audiophiles can’t talk about it enough. This while others feel overwhelmed by the maybe technical and difficult world of tube amps. As a response to this we decided to give our customers clarity on what amp’s may best suit their needs.
Please note that the information below about each of the tubes used is a general consensus based on our own experience and many of those in the tube world. Every speaker reacts differently to different tubes and nothing is as straightforward as riding a bike.
Melody Action
The Melody Action is a 2x 11 Watt Class A integrated tube amp
2x Melody EL34 tubes
The EL34 tubes are widely considered a staple in the tube world and often described as having that British Sound with a Marshall Tone. The tubes produce a signature velvet-smooth mid and excel at reproducing horns and female vocals with silky smooth texture. While it can be a bit softer at frequency extremes. Even then don’t seem to have any obvious shortcomings and are seamless from top to bottom.

The Melody Action EVO produces 2x 40 Watt
4x Melody EL34 tubes
The Melody Action EVO uses the same tubes as it’s younger brother the Action but then twice as many of each tube. Resulting in the higher wattage output capability of the amp.

The Melody Action Ultra produces 2x 28 Watt
4x Melody 5881
The 5881 tubes are family of the 6L6 tubes and as such have their own characteristics. Although they are often described as having an American Sound. Mainly being that these tubes have more refined lows and highs. This while for example the EL34 excels at mids.

Melody Pro88 MK II
The Melody Pro88 MK II integrated amp produces 2x 50 wattage
4x Melody KT88
The Pro88 MK II uses a total of 4 KT88 tubes. Regarding sound the consensus seems to be that the KT88 is more balanced across the entire frequency band with a stronger bass but may ‘lack’ the richness that EL34 tubes have in the midrange.

The 2A3 tubes are considered to have transparent detail at their low wattage. They seem more pure and clear in the mid’s and have smoother highs compared to for example the 300B.

Melody AN300B MAX
The Melody AN300B integrated amp produces 2x 8 watts class A

The 300B is regarded as a very reliable tube with good linearity, low noise and good reliability. This maybe be because the tube was originally desgined by Western Electric around the 1900’s to amplify telephone signals. Part of the 300B magic is it’s harmonic distribution. It has a very midrange emphasis.

The Melody DPM80 integrated amp produces 2x 75 watts

The KT150 tubes have great balance, are grain free and extend very well between top and bottom. Also, it has ruthless and effortless power with great mids. They are great for less efficient speakers.

The 845 is quite a powerfull tube that will really open up in the world of rock music and contemporary pop. It has a great dynamic range and great power. It also has a tighter and deeper base with quite some headroom.

Everest 211
The Melody Everest 211 integrated amp produces 2x 13 watts as a class A
2x Melody 211
The 211 tube is in the higher segment of tubes and provides one of the purest sounds one can find. The 211 is most suited for jazz, classic and opera.
